Jesus met James, John, Peter and Andrew at the docks. They were fishermen completing their work tasks. The public market for commerce was just a few steps away where weekday life was happening. Imagine a city with a hustling downtown on the water like Seattle or San Francisco. Jesus is walking down the street, even into the office and residential buildings saying, “follow me.”

Repeatedly in the Bible, people of faith recognized the work of God in such powerful ways during their weekdays that they paused to build altars of worship acknowledging God’s supernatural activity. This pattern begins straight up in Genesis through people like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Just imagine how this mindset can flavor a day with energizing purpose while reducing distractions or stress.

His power and authority have never waned. So much of life seems out of control, but their is a God of the universe. He promises your best life when you do things like believe and follow. The Bible is filled with examples of marketplace people, who experienced many challenges and personal limitations, yet they enjoyed immeasurable blessings direct from God.
